A formal Derby dinner party, complete with all the silver, fine china and of course, red roses is planned for the evening of the Derby race. Being born and raised in Virginia, I know people in the south love their silver. This is a table set with heirloom silver mint julep cups, beautiful crystal decanters for Kentucky bourbon, silver trays for placemats and yet it evokes a modern today feeling. Wispy sheer linen, completely to the floor, covers the elegant table. For the centerpiece, organic tree roots hold water vials of asparagus fern and red roses. White lilies are filled with red raspberries at each of the place settings. Crisp organdy red napkins are used to mimic the red rose color palette, and they are cuffed with a black velvet ribbon and rhinestone horseshoe pin. A menu card is created using a spencerian horse graphic from the Graphics Fairy. All of these ideas are showcased in our new book, Romancing the Home Entertains. This is absolutely gorgeous! I am originally from Kentucky and am missing having a Derby party (we're in Italy for the rest of the year before heading back to Alabama in the fall)and this just made my heart soar!!! Every detail is superb!
Coincidentally, both my husband (A Georgia boy) and I went to college in Virginia and lived there for 11 years! Where are you located?
I'm your newest follower!

This is over-the-top beautiful and very creative! I'm also from the South (North Carolina) and I do love silver and crystal, and I love watching the Triple Crown races. Your silver is beautiful; mint julep cups are actually on my wish list. Have a great weekend.

So, so lovely. Next year I'm doing a Derby party. Hats will be required.
This is so wonderful! Love the rhinestone horse pin and velvet ribbon as your napkin ring. I'm still in awe of your delightful lunch trays last week :-)
As a child of Kentucky I dearly miss all the Derby activities. This made up for the loss this year! I feel like I am on my way to the race. I adore horses, miss the Ky bluegrass and my Ky family.
So glad to see a derby table.. Love the roses and the raspberries. this is very very elegant and lovely. May the best horse win!
So elegant and gorgeous!!gedione
This is a very elegant Derby Dinner setting. Love it! I especially like the touch of the rhinestone-pinned napkin ring. And you are right, one can never have too much silver!
A fancy bonnet would be right at home at this lovely party.
