We set up a sweets shop on the center island in the kitchen. Sawing the legs off a coffee table, we then painted it black and gold. It would make the perfect large riser for the center of the island.
The large marshmallow lollipops were from World Market- we loved the colors and added silk ribbons to the stems.
We purchased plain cakes from the grocery store bakery and embellished them with handmade sugar flowers. ETSY provided a great selection of handmade sugar flowers. We ordered from several vendors and all of them were beautiful.
A birdcage cloche was sprayed gold and used over the cake.
The beautifully decorated cookies were from another artist on ETSY.
ETSY has a great selection of beautiful cookies that you can order.
Individual silver vegetable containers from the 60's and 70's were used as individual "box lunches" for the guests.
We downloaded cupcake graphics from artists on ETSY and embellished store bought cupcakes.

We couldn't resist the whipped cream and fluffy marshmallow vodkas.
The rim of one flute was sugared with gold sugar- ready for a champagne cocktail.
Hostess cupcakes covered in coconut were the perfect place card holder.
Dolfin candy bars were embellished with rhinestone stickers and gold doilies and then
tucked into the fold of the napkin. We found the candy bars at World Market and the rhinestone stickers at Hobby Lobby and Michaels.
Individual miniature cakes were placed at each place setting.
A piece of rhinestone embellished fabric was swooshed in the center of the table to add
a little sparkle.
A single pink rose petal was placed in the glass of rose wine.
I love Valentines Day.
It is such a dreary time of the year in Chicago and this holiday just helps to lift your spirits!
So gather a group of friends and throw your own soiree!

Susan, every detail here is exquisite! I've added this post to my Valentine Pinterest board. Thank you for sharing all the exact details of how and where you sourced things. Hosting a meeting here right before Valentine's Day and may try to incorporate some of these ideas. Love the way you served the individual lunches. Wish I had a collection of covered vegetable dishes. Love the idea! The beautiful hand dyed silk ribbon too. I need to google and find a new source as my local source is no longer in business. It adds a beautiful touch here, and I absolutely love using it for packages. Thanks for sharing this inspiration.
Happy Valentine's Day to you.
A soft and pretty pastel blog for this dreary time of year in Chicago. I particularly loved the silver containers for the box lunches. The table was so pretty and the silk ribbon was gorgeous!
Such gorgeous attention to details, absolutely magnificent......
Smiles~

Love this blog. Everything looks beautiful I can't pick a favorite. The little cakes in the birdcages are so adorable.
Can't believe those vodka bottles. I forgot all about that.
Valentines Day was always special at Romancing the home.
Oh so pretty and romantic! Never can choose a favorite, but just love the layering on the island. The shortening of the legs on the painted black and gold table just points to the fact that you can't throw anything away. Reuse and embellish is certainly one of your many talents! Again such wonderful inspiration!!!
Also had a chance to view your post on Jill's wonderful home at Christmas time. Loved every picture and enjoyed seeing her vast talent on display! How much fun you all must have had on those trips and collecting such beautiful things!
This is just fabulous!! Love the sawn-off coffee table idea! (Do you mind if I add you to my sidebar?)
Nice to meet you!
Anne
Be still my heart. What gorgeous inspiration and an incredible gathering. So much eye candy I did not know where to look first. I have to go back for a second look to take in all the beauty again.
Those little cakes are stunning.

I am in love with these vintage valentine’s inspirations. Everything here looks fantabulous. Thanks a lot for sharing these details here. We hosted a vintage anniversary party and had booked one of historic party venues in Houston for celebrations.
